I just found out that I have a large cyst on my ovary (28x16x8 cm)........?

The cyst is putting pressure on my kidney (It is growing upward) The doctor is planning on a laparotomy I was told I would need 4 weeks off can not drive - the incision will be huge.

My question is (yes I will also ask my doctor) would a laparoscopic fenestration be possible instead?

Has anyone had a similar situation?

To prevent complications, get it operated. Lap surgery is possible. Good luck! By reading your quest. it seems u hav done yr homework well! By dimensions it looks pretty big. How you could tolerate it so long, I wonder.
Reply:You should get atleast 2 more opinions from different docs before agreeing to surgery.
Reply:So, to do a laparoscopy, you need to fill the abdomen with gas, so that you can insert a camera and the instruments you need to perform the surgery. Given the size of your cyst, there are two major problems with doing laparoscopy. One is that when you insert the trocars (the ports through which the instruments are inserted), there is a high likelihood you will puncture the cyst during insertion. Not great. The second is that there will be no room to work, nor will you be able to see anything. Imagine trying to remove a water balloon from a shoe box with only 3 holes and some chopsticks. Same idea. It sounds like the safest option would be the laparotomy.
