How do you help a cat heal a popped cyst or boil on the neck?

she is 13 years old and a female, obviously, and i found a hole in her neck one morning, quite large, a little deep too. i think it was a cyst or boil, something that can pop or rip off. any suggestions? so far i have been cleaning it with peroxide and some bacteria killer. is there a better way?

You say it's a hole?

Could it be a bite wound?

If it is... keep a VERY close eye on it because it could require medical care. If it were my cat, I would o a vat visit just incase.

Here's the run down on a puncture / bite wound.

Reply:Be patient if it doesn't go away or the cat gets sick go to the vet and have it checked out
Reply:take it to the vet
Reply:I know that peroxide eats away damaged and healthy tissue, so it can actually prolong a healing process. I would stop using the peroxide, and try warm water with soap to clean the area. Then I would use an antibiotic ointment for a few days, and keep it covered if possible. After a few days, I would leave it alone and let the air get to it to help it finish healing.
Reply:They are very hard to treat. Sounds like you are doing ok but check out this, hope it helps.
Reply:Is she goes outside? It sounds like an abcess from a cat bite. Keep cleaning it with peroxide, then put Neosporin on it.

It could also be a spider bite.

PS: thanks to Shay and Kat for the great links to the cat vet websites!
Reply:keep clean, use peroxid or neosporin, if nothing happens, or the hole is much deep go to VET !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:You may have to take it in for antiobotics,. If keeping it clean dosen't work or it dosen't drain you need to get her in. The infection can get in her blood stream.
Reply:Whoa... those are really bad news. Probably from a bite it sounds like. What you really need is to take the cat to the vet. You will need to get antibiotics because the blood can get infected. That happened to my cat because it wasn't caught in time, and she died.
Reply:Have patience..it sounds like you are doing the right thing. BUT if you feel she needs more care or better medicine then call your vet..they would be able to tell you whether to bring her in so they can look at the spot...and give you better meds to heal the spot.

good luck! :)
Reply:I don't like using chemicals on wound if I can help it salt water works well and use an antiseptic wipe to keep it clean. cat skin injuries heal very quickly
