Females: have you ever had a ruptured ovarian cyst?

On Thursday, I was taken to the ER for severe lower abdominal and lower back pain. After a CT scan, they said that they found fluid which could possibly mean a ruptured ovarian cyst. Well, I have actually had this happen before, but I don't remember the pain being this intense!! My question is, if you've had this happen to you, was the pain very intense, and how long were you in pain?? I still can hardly walk the pain is so bad, and pain medicine has not worked at all! Can anybody relate to this??

Females: have you ever had a ruptured ovarian cyst?
Yeah. I got one when I was 18, senior year of high school. It was one of the worst experiences of my life. One reason why I'm on birth control. It reduces the risk of getting them. I was in soo much pain I had to go to the hospital. Pain killers help dull the pain. I heard if you get more than one you will continue to get them. Some people it's a one and done deal. See if you can get some heavier duty medication to help with the pain. When I had it, the pain was so excruciating, I couldn't go to school the next day. Mine ruptured. Try putting a heat pad on it or a cool pack to dull/relax your muscles. And get stronger meds. Good luck. I know what your going through.
Reply:nope sorry
Reply:I can relate to this big time! Ouch! I could still remember the pain as I was reading your question. It was incredibly painful for me and I remember being sore for about a week even though I was taking Motrin. I don't know how bad yours hurts but I can relate and I hope that you feel better soon. Try to take it easy and stay off your feet if you can.
Reply:Unfortunately, I can relate. I've been rushed to the ER close to 5 times for ruptured cysts. They typically happen 1 to 2 times a year for me. The last one, the pain was so severe, it put me out of commission for approximately a week. Which pain medication do they have you on?

I've had success with Vicodin and Motrin 800 mg combo. The thing with that is Vicodin is not good for pain already there, it more or less will help keep the pain from returning, so they had me alternating between the two, every 4-6 hrs. Due to the high abuse rate of Vicodin, doctors are more hesitant to prescribe. I've had to go through several rounds of other medications (darvocet, tylenol 3, etc.) until they would even try it.

If the medication is not working, definately go back to your doctor and see what else can be done.
Reply:yes...and the agony in quite intense
Reply:I had a discomfort in my lower abdoman for quite sometime and the doctor did a ultrasound and found 4 large cysts on my ovary,,they were all around an inch or bigger,,they all burst at the same time and i felt like I would double over from the pain,,,the worst of the pain subsided but but i felt the effects of it for days afterwards,,,,,I have a very high tolerance for pain so what I call discomfort someone else would probably be in dire agony with
Reply:Why not try Bio Stim Kit ?

How do I get rid of a sebacous cyst without seeing a Dr?

I have this sebacous cyst on my chest and it is bothering. I have been doing hot compresses. Is there anything else that I can do to get rid of it. Should I take Doxycycline or is there a good over the counter medication that i should get. It's painful and I prefer not waiting until Monday. Can I call the fire department non-emergency number and have them remove it at my house as opposed to going to the ER? Can I remove it myself? Any ideas the websites on the internet don't say anything of this respect.

Any ideas ASAP would be greatly appreciated. I'm in pain and it burns. I

Do I need to worry about a hemorrhagic cyst?

I just found out today that this is what is causing me pain. They are putting me on some pills to see if it will rid of the cyst; if not surgery may be needed....any info on this?

Thanks

Do I need to worry about a hemorrhagic cyst?
I had a transvaginal ultrasound on Friday, and found out that I have a hemorrhagic cyst. I have spoken with my gyno. today. He assures me that they are quite common. But, he wants me to come in next Monday for another ultrasound if I have not started my period. I am a month late. If I start my monthly before then, he wants me to wait about 4 weeks before I have another ultrasound. My gyno. says they normally resolve by themselves. If not, he says then surgery may be required to remove the cyst.

He basically told me to monitor my pain, but take pain meds when needed, but if pain gets severe, go to the ER. Hope everything turns out well for you. I am keeping my fingers crossed that mine just goes away on its own.

Is there anyway to get rid of a cyst on the genitals?
See your regular doc and ask them to lance it for you and get rid of the material that is in it. Your doc apparently just didn't want to have to deal with this for you so she told you there was nothing more she could do when in fact she could do more. Get it lanced and cleaned out at your regular docs office.
Reply:Get a new doctor that is ridiculous!
Reply:Probably because thats a sensitive area! But I would get a few more doctors opionions or seek a specialist like a dermatologist.
Reply:Had the same problem with a cyst in the same area....it got so large and painful that I couldn't walk. Went to the E.R. and had it lanced and drained. Cyst all gone and never came back. You could go to the E.R. as an emergancy if it's that painful like mine was...or just go to your regular doctor or switch to a better OBGYN

My GYN told me that I have a cyst on my right ovary. What is this and shouldl I be worried about cancer?

I am 25, and just had a baby 7 months ago. I have a cyst. I don't know anything about it but I have one. My mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and ended up having chemo and a historectomy. Should I be worried? My MD perscribed some hormones and hopes it will shrink it!

My GYN told me that I have a cyst on my right ovary. What is this and shouldl I be worried about cancer?
About 95% of ovarian cysts are benign; those that persist beyond two or three menstrual cycles, or occur in post-menopausal women may indicate more serious disease and should be investigated through ultrasonography and laproscopy, especially in cases where other family members have had ovarian cancer. Such cysts may require surgical biopsy. Additionally, a blood test may be taken before surgery to check for elevated CA-125, a tumor marker, which is often found in increased levels in ovarian cancer, although it can also be elevated by other conditions resulting in a large number of false positives.
Reply:Not to worry. I had one when I was your age and it was very painful, every other period or so. One gynecologist told me it was the size of a golf ball.

No surgery, just modified my diet. No salt, no junk food, at all! I also followed an exercise routine. The problem went away. That was a long time ago. Keep up good health and don't slack off. Especially if your mother had the disease, doesn't mean you are going to get it, it means you should take better care of yourself.
Reply:Sometimes a cyst on your ovary is just your body being stuck in a cycle. I had one about 2 years after I had my 2nd child. I was put on hormones and it went away in a month or so.

Just keep in close contact with your doctor. If you feel any sharp (or dull) pain, unexplained bleeding, etc, call your doc right away. Sometimes cysts can rupture - but unless your doctor said anything, you 'll probably be ok.
Reply:they are not cancerous, but if it ruptures it can be extremely painful. Just make sure to take the med prescribed by your doctor, if it doesn't shrink it, it will have to be removed. Dint worry though, I have had a couple of friends that had them on their ovaries. One had it removed, the other actually had it rupture and had to go to the hospital, but she ended up being OK, it just hurts alot.
Reply:Aww you poor girl you must be really worried. BUT DON'T BE! I read that 90% of women have at least one ovarian cyst in their lifetime. Most women don't even know that they have them until they become very large or get twisted. Don't worry I'm sure your OBGYN must have faith its no big deal if they ordered hormones instead of testing!

What type doctor should I see to remove cyst/lump?

I have what I think is likely a cyst or build-up of some sort of scar tissue underneath the skin on my the underside of my forearm. It's been there since college (about 15 years) but has grown from about a 1/4" to around 3/4" in diameter. I can more or less pry it around under the skin though it stays in the same location. Anyway it's become a bit obvious over the years, esp. when working out (ie. curling), and I'd like to have it removed.

I'd just go ask my GP where to go but he's just gonna charge me to look at it, then send me to another doctor who is gonna charge me again, right? Is there ONE type doctor I can go see who will tell me what it is and remove it via surgery? How much does something like this cost? It normally doesn't cause me any pain but is a little uncomfortable when working out.

I am insured.

Thanks,

Matt

What type doctor should I see to remove cyst/lump?
I am quite sure your GP can remove it in the office with local anethesia...novacaine. No big deal, takes about 10 minutes, a few stitches if necessary, probably just butterfly it and leave it at that. Good luck
Reply:A general surgeon. Good luck.
Reply:Your family Dr. will refer you.
Reply:a dermatologist is what you want but i suspect they will require a referral from you GP.call one and see if they do.
Reply:Dermatologists are great for this stuff :) I'd see one of them :)
Reply:Most of the time your GP will have to refer you to another doctor (mostly because of how insurance companies deal)
Reply:You could check with a dermatologist, but if it requires surgery, he will likely refer you to a surgeon, so you might just as well go to your own doctor and let him refer you to a surgeon. You really don't want to mess around with it, as skin cancers (and that's only one possibility, it may well be benign) can be deadly. If you are insured, it won't cost you any extra to start with your own doctor, and for future reference, it's better that he know your complete history.

Here's hoping it's nothing more than a nuisance.
Reply:Call your insurance company and ask them to refer you based on your condition to a doctor that accepts your insurance. That way if you need to see your GP first you'll know for sure.

No matter what type of doc you see, you probably won't be able to get away with only 1 visit. They will probably need to see you first and then after they know what it is they'll schedule you appropriately.

Good luck!
Reply:a general surgeon would be the best to remove the cyst or lymphoma. Most insurance need a referal so you may still need to see your Primary MD.
Reply:A dermatologist should be able to remove it for you.
Reply:Dermatologist is a skin doc. You are prolly gonna need a Biopsy on it, lab fees and junk but that is so you don't have to see an Oncologist or witch doctor that does Cancerous Tumors.

Skin is the largest organ on a human body and a Dermatologist is a Skin Doctor.

No pain but it is bothersome, any doctor, witch lady, voodoo priest or anyone with a Diploma on a wall will take money. That is called Capitalism.
Reply:I just had one removed by a dermatologist, he was great, hardly have a scar

WILL PUTTING SALT ON A Bartholin's gland cyst HELP?

IM NOT SURE BUT I THINK I HAVE A Bartholin's gland cyst AND I WONT BE ABLE TO FIND OUT UNTIL TUESDAY WHEN MY BOYFRIEND CAN TAKE ME TO GET IT CHECKED OUT but will putting salt on it help it and maybe make it go away?

WILL PUTTING SALT ON A Bartholin's gland cyst HELP?
Warm sitz baths or compresses can help with the inflamation. If it is not infected you can use some topical antibiotics.

You should see your Health Care Provider. You want to make sure its treated correctly. This is something that can complicate quickly.

Hope this helps!
Reply:a good old fashioned salt bath won't hurt but get it checked any way!
Reply:No , Don't do that, it's not gonna help in any way , shape or form, the only way to get it out is by going to the doctor. and you should know , that once you have a Bartholin's cyst you will have periodic episodes with them, but they really don't cause any problems , it just doesn't look right. Go to your OBGYN . Goodluck
Reply:Are you mad?! Salt won't do anything, except make your ***** sting!
Reply:no it will hurt like hell

What are the implications of the ovarian retention cyst in fertility and how is it been treated. The drugs .?

I have a kind of inflammation in my pelvic and I experienced a short sharp pain in the right side of my lower abdomen. The inflammation has been coming and going and I have been taken some antibiotics. I went to a laboratory test and pelvic scan and a retention cyst of diameter 1.5cm was found in the right adnexa (ovary) and I have been given antibiotic injection and some drugs but the problem persists. May be I have not received the right treatment.I need to be treated and got relieved. Does it have any negative implication on fertility?

What are the implications of the ovarian retention cyst in fertility and how is it been treated. The drugs .?
Hold UP ... First of all, antibiotics have nothing to do with treating an ovarian cyst. I was just diagnosed with an one and initially, there is NOTHING that they will do to treat it.

Based on the information that I found from researching, ovarian cysts are common in women (especially pre-menopausal) and the cyst usually takes care of itself by either absorbing back into the system or bursting (like a pimple).

Follicle retention cysts (the predominant ovarian cysts) are simple follicle retention cysts, small and frequently numerous cysts containing a clear fluid. A follicle is the localized area of the ovary in which the egg matures. When ovulation does not occur, the follicle may continue to grow, forming a cystic mass that rarely exceeds two or three inches in diameter. Usually, follicle cysts disappear without treatment within two months, and they do not become malignant growths.

Good luck! I know the pain is unbearable at times!!
Reply:If it is an ovarian cysts, then the egg is staying in the ovary instead of properly ovulating, so it will affect fertility. I did a search of other yahoo answers about cysts and came across this great website. hope it helps http://www.medic8.com/healthguide/articl...
