I am expecting a baby. The ultrasound shows an ARACHNOID CYST in sellar and supra sellar region of the brain.?

The size of the cyst is approx 1.8 x 1.7 x 1.6 cm. I am unable to find a reasonable answer from any doc. Can anybody tell me the details about this problem or refer me to a doc for this.

My daughter has this - and it is in the same region - there is really nothing they can do for this except watch it for growth. However, she also has a brain tumor - BUT do NOT get alarmed - this is her 2nd brain tumor.

Have you seen a neurosurgeon??? If not - go to one - they may recommend chemotherapy AFTER the birth of your child.

Go to this website http://www.abta.org OR

you will find some very helpful information that may ease your mind.

Best of luck to you.
Reply:Hydrocephalus, visual difficulties or hypopituitarism are potential complications. Removal of these cysts (if they do become symptomatic) is typically quite successful.
Reply:I'm not a doctor, but my understanding is that they're not really accurate about seeing those kinds of things in an ultrasound. I know someone who's doctor supposedly saw an arachnoid cyst in their ultrasound, but when the baby was born there wasn't anything wrong.

In any event, there's nothing you can do about it until the baby is born, so you really should just hope for the best and try not to worry about it. I imagine they may do some extra ultrasounds to make sure it doesn't get any bigger.

Good luck. I hope you have a healthy baby!
