My doctor has told me that I have to have a surgical procedure done on my wrist. I have had a cyst for a long time and I am a drummer, so my wrist is constantly hurting. I would like ot know if anyone has had any bad outcomes or negative side affects from this surgery. Please and thank U!

I work in a hospital -- you are going to be JUST FINE.....as long as you have a good doctor. Don't worry!!! We have 91 year old patients getting heart surgery (yeah, where the rib cages are pulled open first) and THEY LIVE through it and get on with their lives -- you'll be just fine :)
Reply:It's a fairly simple surgery with virtually no side effects. Nothing to worry about. They'll give you yummy pain meds :]
Reply:the surgery is for the cyst and is almost 100% effective. rarely does anything serious occur from the surgery
Reply:I assume it's a ganglion cyst. I had one on the top of my right wrist from typing so much. I've had absolutely no problems and the pain went away immediately.
Reply:I had a cyst on my wrist quite a few years ago. The surgery was no big deal (but it is a big deal if you are the one being cut on)....They have such good techniques now that you will be in and out before you know it. But, recovery will take several weeks I don't care what they tell you. After the first few days you can do for yourself pretty well. Also, I would be sure to have a really good hand specialist. You don't want a surgeon who doesn't do this particular surgery all the time. God bless. :)
Reply:My son had a cyst/tumor in his wrist also- the doc said that the surgery would take it out and the follow up would be 2 years to make sure it did not form again- 2 years has past and he is great! has a 2 inch scar along the wrist but that is all that is left! The doc said that it was a benign cyst/tumor and when he fell and aggravated it caused it to become sore and swell. Wish you the best!
