the cyst is inside the ear and does not seem to cause him any pain. it is possibly rupturing occasionally with a horrendously foul smelling liquid. (i have been finding the spots around the house and wondering what they were). he hates the vet and i don't want to take him if i don't have to
My cat has a what appears to be a cyst in his ear. he also has ear mites. any ideas as to the cause?
He could have an abscess in his ear due to scratching at his ears. Try using neosporin or a similar antibiotic on it after it ruptures, or whatever it is doing. If he'll let you, try to lance it and keep it open, putting antibiotics on it several times a day. If this does not get rid of it, you probably should see a vet.
Reply:Once you accepted that cat as yours, you accepted responsibility.
Allowing that "cyst" to drain throughout your home is exposing yourself and your family to terrible bacteria.
Why have the ear mites gone untreated? There are home remedies.
Sounds like a case of owner neglect to me.
Reply:It could be cancer, an ear hemotoma, a polyp, an abcess, a foreign body. There is no way I or any other veterinarian can help you without an exam.
If he has ear mites, then he's either indoor/ outdoor or has fleas.
Those are the top 2 ways an animal gets ear mites.

Reply:untreated earmites can cause permanent ear damage.. I dont care if you cat hates vets or not.. neglecting to treat an animal can see you fined for ANIMAL NEGLECT
Reply:ear mites can be picked up when your cat goes outside, get rid of them by treating your cat with revolution for a couple months, as a bouns it will also kill any fleas or roundworms your cat could have picked up as well. as for the cyst it is usually a gland that get plugged or something and then expands. if you know it is for sure a cyst you should think about getting it removed. any cat hates the vet but what needs to be done, needs to be done. if it is just pus than that could be an abcess or just an infection from him scratching his ears. either way go to the vet he may need surgery of antibiotics. good luck.
