I have been diagnosed with a functional ovarian cyst and my doc put me back on the birth control to see if that would make it go away. She said to give it 2-3 months. When I go back for my next doc visit in may, if it is still hurting me she will refer me to a doc that can help me further with it. But it's been about 2 1/2 months and I am still feeling it. My question is, can I get a pain med (percocet or lortab) prescribed till we know what is going to be done? Ibuprophen (anti-inflammitory) did nothing.
Has anyone ever been prescribed pain med for pain from an ovarian cyst?
I have Poly-Cystic Ovarian Syndrome, so I totally understand how painful that is. Any way yea you should be able to get some low dose pain med for it. Hopefully the birth control will shrink it, that is what your doctor is trying. but in the mean time you should give her a call and ask for something for the pain. she should be willing to give you enough to help through may, and seeing a specialist if it is needed.

Reply:i have one also and i was asked to go on birth control and i really don't want to do that so i have been giving some meds to take care of the pain .
Reply:Percocet is very strong. They may try tylenol with codeine.
Reply:Several years ago I had a large one removed, I didn't wait for it to reabsorb, as suggested, because I was afraid it might rupture. So it was removed, but since then, the scar tissue has been painful. They call this adhesions. You may think you can't stand it now, but try the second doctor, see what they suggest. The hormones in birth control may help, but could take the 3 months your doc had said...
Ibu did nothing for my pain, some other anti inflamatory may work better. You don't want to take something which could impair your driving, or any other aspect of your lifestyle.

Reply:I also have a cyst. I noticed mine after waking up one night in severe pain. When I went to the dr. they said I had one that had ruptured but I still had another one on my other ovary. After going back a few months later it is still there, but it's nothing she is worried about. My doctor gave me Tramadol, which is a non-narcotic pain medicine which worked very well. I'm not sure if your dr. will prescribe the others b/c they are highly addictive. Next time you see them ask for the tramadol first and see how that helps. Good luck!

i'm curious...how did u know u had cysts? Did you feel a lot of pain? Was ur lower stomach swollen?
Reply:In the hospital where i worked, we have many patients with those case. Are they doing tumor debulking and staging....possible chelation... just be strong and after surgery, try to move around as early as the doctor allows u usually post op day #1 and dont shy away from pain medication, u will not need it...eventually but while u need it make sure u use it because unrelieved post op pains can lead to other post op complication.....unable to move around because of pain...u might have pneumonia.....dvt or adhesions.....take care.....if u are still scared, talk to someone when u get to the hospital, they can allay ur fears......

If so, the worst that could happen is they can take your whole "Uterus" and you'll just go through early Menopause, depending on if your past that age, or not... If these cysts are on the outside of the tubes, they can very easily remove them, and you could still have kids.. My mom had cervical cancer, after all 6 of us kids were already born, and she was in her 30s... They simply took her uterus out... An easy operation, and she came home, within a week of her surgery, she went through early menopause... and "Loved" that part, with not having periods anymore..... But, with modern science these days, they could very well do orthoscopic surgery, and probably without having to cut, anywhere... Do you have a "support-team" ready to be there for you? I hope so... I'll say a prayer for you, okay.. Just pray for God to make this an easy process, and for nothing to go wrong, and for your ovaries to be just fine afterwards.. And I will too, okay.... Smile, God will be looking after you.. as well as loved ones..... Keep your mind busy, until then..

Since my daughter was 4 months old she has had a redish/purplish bump on the left side of her cheek. It's close to her ear by her jawbone. I have taken her to the dermatologist and they didn't do a whole lot with her since she is only 1yr old. Basically they just said that it seems to be a salivary cyst or a angioma. Okay well then they want me to go back to my pediatrician and be referred over to another dr. Hello these are dermatologist that are supposed to look into these things not send me to everyone in town. So anyways it doesn't seem to hurt her or bother her. It's just annoying and everyone always ask if she has a bruise on her face. What can I do to minimize it, make it go away, or etc?

I have to have surgery on my wrist.It is for a cyst.?
My doctor has told me that I have to have a surgical procedure done on my wrist. I have had a cyst for a long time and I am a drummer, so my wrist is constantly hurting. I would like ot know if anyone has had any bad outcomes or negative side affects from this surgery. Please and thank U!

I work in a hospital -- you are going to be JUST FINE.....as long as you have a good doctor. Don't worry!!! We have 91 year old patients getting heart surgery (yeah, where the rib cages are pulled open first) and THEY LIVE through it and get on with their lives -- you'll be just fine :)

The surgery was no big deal (but it is a big deal if you are the one being cut on)....They have such good techniques now that you will be in and out before you know it. But, recovery will take several weeks I don't care what they tell you. After the first few days you can do for yourself pretty well. Also, I would be sure to have a really good hand specialist. You don't want a surgeon who doesn't do this particular surgery all the time. God bless. :)
Reply:My son had a cyst/tumor in his wrist also- the doc said that the surgery would take it out and the follow up would be 2 years to make sure it did not form again- 2 years has past and he is great! has a 2 inch scar along the wrist but that is all that is left! The doc said that it was a benign cyst/tumor and when he fell and aggravated it caused it to become sore and swell. Wish you the best!

I didn't end up with surgury because my mom and I were messing around with something. and she grabbed my wrist, I was wearing a watch that day, and it broke up the cyst. it hurt but when we went to the doctor. he told me they use to hit them with something to brake them up anyways so all was good. I wouldn't worry about it. I had it on my wrist for about 5 or 6 months

Surgical removal of the cyst is needed when the mass is painful, interferes with function (especially when your dominant hand is involved), or causes numbness or tingling of the hand or fingers.

The surgery was a simple one-inch incision (in the doctor's office); no pain, no complications. Had a bandage and my wrist in a brace for 3 days. All was cool.
But...the cyst came back two years later, and I had it removed again. Then it came back when I was about 20. When I told one of my co-workers about it, he told me to put my hand, palm-down, on his desk, which I did.
He then grabbed a book and smacked my wrist hard with it. The cyst disappeared and it's been over 30 years...no more cyst.
Reply:Most people do quite well with this procedure...but it's VERY important to follow the directions of after care. I know 2 drummers who have had it done and it went well for both but they followed the orders and didn't rush recovery...best of luck to you

You can expect the dr to take a proper history, examine the breast and that he might stick a needle into it to do cytological testing.

Its best u put castor oil or olive oil on the breast, it could be
nothing.
Toothpaste on bumps and lumps knock em down overnite.
Always get a second opinion if the doc wants to cut u.
Remember doctors are after money more than makin u well.

I have a fibroid in uterus, and my left ovary is removed due to ovarian cyst. Can I conceive & get pregnant?
I am married. I have four daughters. Now that I want to take a chance again. two of my elder daughters were born when I had the overian cyst (first in Nov'97 and other in feb'99) and that after the removal of cyst (it was removed in Apr'99)I have given birth to my twin daughters in July 2001.
I have a fibroid in uterus, and my left ovary is removed due to ovarian cyst. Can I conceive %26amp; get pregnant?
My wife had multiple uterine fibroids prior to her getting pregnant with twins. So, obviously, we were able to conceive and get quite pregnant. The OB kept an eye on the fibroids since they were getting extra blood during the pregnancy and did grow quite large. There was concern that they could crowd the girls, cause issues with the uterine walls, complicate delivery by getting in the way, etc.
As it turns out, they never grew too big .. the largest was about the size of an orange, I think, which is much smaller than the OB said they could grow.
Since the girls were born, about 4 years ago, the fibroids never did return to their pre-pregnancy size. My wife's uterus stayed the size of a 3-month pregnancy and the fibroids began to calcify and become very sensitve and she had a hysterectomy recently to resolve those issues.

Reply:sure as long as the right ovary is able to produce eggs that will travle along the fallopian tube to the uterus.implantation of the fretilised egg may take place on various parts of the uterus, so u cl get pregnant but might wana watch the fibroid in the uterus since it ld affect the implanted blastocysts develpment into a baby by compression somehow. pls check with a qualified doc though to verify.
